Offering Affordable Housing to Homeless Australians

Fitzgerald Housing aims to offer affordable housing to homeless Australians with a solution that will also help to secure the financial future of our investors. We have a win-win answer to Australia’s housing crisis and we plan to bring more solutions in the future.

Australia has never faced a housing crisis on this scale before. More Australians are homeless or at risk of homelessness than ever before in our history. For the first time, women are the fastest growing demographic who are homeless or at risk. It is no longer the older man struggling with addictions that makes up the majority of the homeless, it is now women, children and young adults. But we offer methods to assist in housing people while also providing a risk free investment.

Fitzgerald Housing Charity was set up to find ways to offer affordable housing to homeless Australians. We have begun with the adaptation of the Government’s National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) to address the rental problem. NRAS-Private has all the benefits of the Government scheme plus more. Our scheme is open to all investors, not just the large players, we want to help Australians into homes while also securing the financial future of our investors. Our scheme is perfect for Mum and Dad investors as well as those with large investment portfolios.

NRAS-Private offers investment in residential property at up to 25% below market value with a rental guarantee of 5, 10 or 15 years. Rent will be paid monthly whether the home is occupied or not and at the end of the term the property is returned to the investor. All potential tenants are selected and vetted through Government agencies and delegated charities. The tenants have to meet essential criteria though these agencies, so they are motivated to make the dwelling their long term home. At the end of the tenancy the home is completely refurbished to as new condition, including landscaping.

With Fitzgerald Housing, a homeless Australian family finds a secure, long-term affordable home and the investor has monthly payments deposited directly to their bank account, plus a fully refurbished home at the end of the tenancy. To date we have already housed 8 families in less than two months’ operation. We aim to help solve the housing problem one local government area at a time.

However, we are already looking at other methods to help Australians into affordable housing. Our research team is busy looking at ways to address the housing problems of different groups of Australians. We hope to develop methods to help out people who have special needs with their housing, like people with a disability and older Aussies

Fitzgerald Housing Charity was established because the CEO almost found himself homeless and realized the extent of the problem. During the border closures due to the Pandemic he was trapped in Cambodia so he began an MBA. He began working on housing solutions as the focus of his studies. He also found a lot of talented individuals here who were also trapped. After assembling his team, he discovered that all the Australians he employed faced homelessness now if they returned to Australia. Ironically it is why the majority of the Fitzgerald Housing Charity employees are in Cambodia, we just could not afford to set up this scheme in Australia due to the high cost of rent.
